Post Mogollon 100. Another Great Time at Javelina Jundred

Image
The Mogollon Monster did not go as planned. I know why. Training. More specific and more. You can’t cram for 100 mile. I guess I thought my knowledge of the course, past experiences and WILL would get me to the finish line. Live, learn, and come back stronger and more prepared. I was featured on the Burnt Sky Broadcast  Podcast . Also it can be found on ITunes . It was such a good experience. I also made a short video about the experience.  MOG100 VLOG This past weekend I once again found myself at Mcdowell Park for the Javelina Jundred. I volunteered (worked) , crewed , paced, and had a blast. Love that race. Video from my POV  JJ100 Still on a high from such a great weekend. I got Zane Grey 100K in April. Before that not sure. Running, raising my kids and learning. Life . Never stop learning

New year, new gear, new challenges and some old demons.

I am talking a new year in May. What the heck, where has the time gone. In a few weeks will be half way through 2019.  It seems to have happen with the snap of a finger.  Got some big challenges ahead.  I am chasing a certain monster on the Mogollon rim in September.  I am also looking  to possible complete my first triathlon.  Possibility of career change at work. This excites me.   But when I mention “Old Demons” it’s in reference to depression. I was in a dark storm late 2017 early 2018.   I never want to go back to that place.   From medication to counseling and lot of prayers. Also writing, faith, having good friends, and support has helped me. Also understanding it, as much as anyone can.   One day at a time. Next, I hope to conquer few other monsters that haunt me. I am in a good place right now.   Never thought I’d be exciting about cycling and the idea of a triathlon.   I talked over and over about the Mogo...

Across The Years 2016/17 24 hour, 1st timed event, 1st sub 24 hour 100 miler

Image
It is crazy to me how time can fly by and yet stand still at moments. Circles. Running 1.05 mile circles is how I decided to end 2016. It’s also how I started 2017. Almost 4 days removed from my 24-hour timed race    Across the Years , I am still on cloud 9. What A Rush. No cliff hangers here. I met my goal of running my 1 st sub 24 hour 100-mile race! My cheeks are a bit sore from smiling. I’m hobbling around a bit, but it does hurt oh so good.  My 2nd 100 mile buckle. 1st sub 24 hour The day before the race, I meditated and envisioned myself on the run. I repeated “I will not stop moving, I will not stop moving. No Pain no rain will stop me.” I knew ATY would be cold, but in checking the weather, I was bummed to find out that rain was in the forecast. Being under prepared for weather cost me dearly while attempting my first Zane Grey 50 miler. I have vowed to never let weather stop me again. I over packed, two rain coats, pretty much all my...

Running in the Center of the Universe Podcast Interview (Javelina Jundred)

Image
I recently had the honor of being a guest on the “Running in the Center of the Universe” Podcast.  The show is hosted by Ashland Dave.  I have been listening to the show close to 3 years now.  What draws me to the show is how real and down to earth Dave is.  I like his running stories and perspective on life.  I think he is a straight shooter and shares the same love I have for running. I have emailed the show several times to comment and share my opinion on various topics.  When I mentioned to Dave I had completed the Javelina Jundred (JJ100) I was asked if I would like to be a guest on the show.  I did not hesitate to say yes.  After a few months the interview took place on Wednesday April 16, 2014 .  Here is the link.   Running in the Center of Universe Podcast I will be honest, I was nervous; it was my first Podcast interview.  It was exciting to re-live the JJ100, which was my first and only 100 mile race/run to d...

The Javelina Jundred (JJ100) 2013 Mcdowell Mountain, AZ

Image
Going into JJ100 I knew I'd be facing my biggest running challenge to date. This meant that I needed to approach this run with the right mind set, be patient and run smart in order to finish. This is an epic event that more then lives up to its myth. When I lined up on Saturday morning, October 26th 2013, I did my best to calm my nerves and reminded myself to have fun and enjoy the adventure. At the start of the race I positioned my self mid pack as the plan was to start off slow and be conservative. In training I had run the 15 mile Pemberton Trail loop and knew from experience and reading blogs/advice on face book, it was easy to go out fast. I did not want to blow up early. During the early miles of the first loop I was over thinking things which caused some unneeded anxiety. So it felt good when I finally got into a rhythm. Beyond the mid point of my first lap I saw the front runners on their second loop pushing the pace. I did not spend much time at head qua...
